Answers to the most common questions about Copare.

── Getting started
Open the Copare settings by clicking the extension icon → Open Settings. Click New Snippet, enter a shortcut (e.g. =intro), write your content in the editor, then click Save Snippet.
Any character works as a prefix — =, ;, -, / are popular choices. The full shortcut is matched exactly as typed. Press Space or Tab after your shortcut to trigger the expansion.
Yes — Copare listens on every website by default. It works in standard text inputs, textareas, and rich text editors (contenteditable fields). You can restrict individual snippets to specific websites using the Domains field when editing a snippet.
── Snippets
A few things to check:
  • Make sure the snippet is enabled (toggle on the snippet card).
  • Check that the shortcut is typed exactly — it's case-sensitive.
  • If a domain restriction is set, verify you're on the right website.
  • Some websites intercept keystrokes before Copare can act — try pressing Tab instead of Space.
Edit the snippet and type the domain in the Domains field (e.g. mysite.com). Press Enter or comma to add it. The snippet will only expand on that domain. Leave the field empty to expand everywhere.
When creating or editing a snippet, type a group name in the Group field (e.g. Support). Groups appear in the sidebar. You can also drag a snippet card and drop it onto a group in the sidebar to reassign it instantly.
The Match destination style option (in Settings) strips font family, size and color from your snippet on insertion so it blends naturally with the target field. Bold, italic, links and lists are always preserved. You can turn this off in the sidebar settings.
── Data & privacy
No. All snippets are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.sync. They never leave your device unless you have Chrome Sync enabled — in which case Google syncs them across your own devices. Copare has no server and collects no data.
Open Settings and use the Export button to download your snippets as a JSON file. To restore or share them, use the Import button and select the file. You can choose to merge with existing snippets or replace them entirely.
Delete snippets individually from the Settings page. To remove everything at once, uninstalling the extension will clear all stored data from your browser.
